worst experience with KSRTC

I had a great respect towards KRSTC till couple of days ago. I used to travel in KSRTC for the last 9-10 years from Bangalore to Sringeri and didn't had a bad experience apart from the bus maintenance like malfunctioning windows.

But last Friday we left at 10:00 PM towards Sringeri. The journey was smooth for about 1.5 hours. After that the bus broke down at 11:45 PM on the NH 48. The driver didn't inform any passenger about the same and he called many people and tried to fix the problem by himself. We just sat in the bus waiting for it to start, which didn't happen. Some people went out and then the driver/conductor stopped some other bus and asked them to go in that. But no info to the passengers sitting inside the bus.

The driver did some struggle to get another bus from the nearest KSRTC depo. That effort failed. Finally at 6:45 Am in the morning the driver brought another bus. We waited in the bus from 11:45 PM to 6:45 AM. We would have reached home by that time. We all (remaining passengers) got in to that bus and after that the journey was smooth. We reached home at 2:00 PM.

I had also booked the return ticket in KSRTC. The bus was supposed to reach JAYAPURA (nea Sringeri) at 9:45 PM. But it came at 10:00 PM. 15 minute delay is acceptable. I got into the bus. But the bus stopped there for more than an hour. Some passengers missed the bus at Sringeri and were coming in another bus. They arrived at around 11:00 PM and bus started after that :-). But after travelling for quite a distance, this bus also broke down. Some problem with the wheel. The conductor and driver kept repairing it at regular interval. One time I thought that we were in some serious danger. Some sudden burst sound came and bus lost control. But somehow, driver managed it.

Finally reached Bangalore 3 hours late than normal time. Since it was Monday, reaching Bangalore at 6:00 Am and reaching at 8:30 AM makes a very huge difference, mainly to the office going persons.

But, I have no alternative. There are couple of private buses, which I guess are no better, if breakdown happens.

I have again booked in KSRTC this weekend, hoping this time the travel will be smooth.

Google Chrome for Linux

Finally Google has released its browser to Linux platform. I was eagerly waiting for it.

You can download it (rpm file) from http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html. After downloading install it using "rpm -i <rpm file>" command. You should be logged in as super user to run this command.

They say it is 'BETA' version. But doesn't matter. GMail was 'BETA' till very recently.

Great work Google :-)

My experience at "The Mobile Store"

I wanted a mobile phone which has camera and FM radio features in it.

I went to the website of The Mobile Store, http://www.themobilestore.in , and searched for the phones with these features.

I shortlisted the following phones from the list - Nokia 2630 , Nokia 6080 and Nokia 5000.

After that I went to the "The Mobile Store" at HSR Layout, Bangalore, India. When I asked about these phones, they laughed at me saying these are outdated (I am not able to recall the exact phrase) and they won't have it. When I told them about their website, they kind of refused to address it.

They told me to check other phones having the same features. I said "Yes, let us see what you have". For me it didn't look like "The Mobile Store", it should have been "A mobile Store" or "Yet Another Mobile Store". Because they had very very very... few models.

Inspite of this I looked at the models available at their store and decided on one model. They were discouraging me to select that model as its price was less. But I said, "I want this". I don't know what happened to them after that, either they didn't like me or that model, they told me "We won't have the stock for this model" :-( Disgusting.....

I came out out from there and went to near by BDA complex and purchased the same model from there.

Overall my experience is
1. Their hospitality is not good unless you purchase what is available there and which has higher price.
2. Options are very very less.
